Introduction

In this blog post I want to lay out some helpful tips I’ve learned and habituated over the years. These tips, when done naturally and together, can help you with any dog, regardless of their mental and emotional frame. Most of this requires finesse, and I have tried to put it to words as best I can.

What I’m after in this blog post is to layout in detail how discipline can go very wrong, to the detriment of handler and dog. In part, I am agreeing with those who are against discipline when they say it makes a dog aggressive or afraid, but I’m only agreeing in part.

Choosing the right dog is a very important decision, and I often get questions on this very topic. Get the wrong dog and it can be disastrous to your daily life. In the following post I have laid out the basic principles that I want folks to look at, which can inform their decision.

Over the years I’ve been compared to “Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan. While flattering, I thought it good and right to address some things about the man that are of high importance. For years I have said the man is highly gifted by God as the world’s greatest behaviorist. I stand by those words.
